Should there be a closure of any sort, you will be able to find First Grade assignments at a site to be sent by the District I will also maintain our Weebly site. I have sent a confirmation e-mail using the e-mail addresses given at parent night. In the event of a closing, I will also e-mail daily and responding several times a day. If we should be closed for 2 consecutive days, I will begin making check-in phone calls to answer any questions or offer assistance for accessing sites. Please feel free to keep a list of questions. If I don't have the answer or don't make that particular final decision, I can find out for you or direct you to the administrator who can assist. Thank you for your understanding if this unusual event occurs.
You have access to Quizhub at home. While I can not list the passwords here, most of the class will likely remember. Please e-mail me if you can not access it.

We will be celebrating the 100th Day of School this week. Please send in your cape and booklet if you have not already done so. Due to the snow days earlier in the year, the 100th Day falls on Th 2/27.
We have begun using PebbleGo in preparation for our animal research project. The students know how to access it from the District Library page. It is a great way to work in nighty independent/shared reading.
You may have also noticed that we are practicing our typing skills each week. As part of this practice we try to use authentic information. If your child is not familiar with a contact phone number, please take a moment to review one. We use this to practice typing numbers each week. We will also begin typing our addresses. Getting the devices to send to one of the many printers is tricky. As of March, we will begin to show students how to select one of the 4 CES printers of the 20 or so that are on our devices. This can be tricky at first, but with time, we will get better at it. You nwill see our typing come home each Friday as you have been to this point.
Please note that Spring picture day is scheduled for March 11.
Special Person Day is currently scheduled for April 9.
Spelling words through April 27 are now posted. Please remember that this week is 20 word review of Spalling patterns to date.
Please mark your calendars for June 12 We will be hosting guests for special activities after The Flag Day ceremony..

The Math series Sprints are times tests using the various strategies from Math lessons that you see practiced on our weekly homework. The goal for each sprint per the Math Series is the ability to know these facts using Mental Math in 90 seconds.
While there is not a day set aside for Q2 conferences as in Q1, please send an e-mail if you'd like to meet. Possible times include: before school T-F 7:30 - 7:55 am, Special Class block T-Th 1:40 - 2:10 pm, and after school M- Th 2:30 - 3:00.
Please note the 2/24 Spelling test is 20 words to date. Rather than practice each Spelling word itself, you may find it helpful to consider the individual Spelling patters covered in the CKLA Reading Series to date.
Please be mindful of other students feelings when sending invitations. If inviting the class is not possible, please refer to the PTO Directory for addresses to mail via USPS. Thank you.
We are excited that the 100th day of school is approaching. Directions for the cape project were sent on Monday 1/13. Directions for the 100th day booklet will be sent on Tuesday 1/21. We hope to share our capes at MMA if the main office grants outer request to do so.
We will be celebrating friendship on Feb 14. The class will be creating mailboxes and exchanging cards. Please use the Show and Tell list below for a current list of all classmates. Please refer to the mailbox project directions sent on Monday 1/27.
Our journal entries will be changing a bit with the new year. We will move from writing about our weekend activities to writing about a picture. It is always amazing to see how many versions of events the class comes up with based on the same picture! We will continue to use our proofreading and editing strategies to look for capitals at the beginning of a sentence, end punctuation, spacing between words and proper letter formation/line use. As the new year begins we will also look for subject verb agreement, application of spelling patterns from the Reading series, a variety of ways to begin a sentence , and event order.
We recently began book 4 -The Green Fern Zoo in the CKLA Reading series. Consider checking out the links below to share some reading with your first grader. You have access to all of the books that we use in the classroom. It is a great way to increase fluency and comprehension as well as talk about the spelling patterns that will be the focus.

We are looking for some parents who might have a flexible schedule that will allow them to come to room, consistently, once a week from approx. 12:45 - 1:30 starting in November. Consistency is the key as these volunteers will be working with tech devices in small groups on specific projects. Thank you for considering!
Please watch for homework each Monday (or first day of the week). Please complete it at your convenience and return it on the following Monday (or first day of the week). Homework will always be a review. Please don't hesitate to send an e-mail with questions.
